TACAS Chinese New Year Festival:
We have been to the TACAS Chinese New Year Festival ( www.nctacas.org ) a few times, but this year was a little different (and special). Anya and her schoolmates from Chinese School participated in a small performance. We got a phone call just a week before the event that her school was looking for small kids to sing in Chinese and dance. Even though Anya did not know how to sing or dance, they said she would do just fine. They only practiced together once and then met up on the stage. They performed two songs: Ugly Little Duckling (with dance) and Little White Boat. We (especially Gade) had helped Anya practice before the big day. She did the dance routine very well, but is still a long ways from being able to sing the songs. We were very proud of her. She showed no signs of fear at being on stage in front of hundreds of people and she said she enjoyed doing it.
We also met Jan and Bruce at the event. They came to celebrate the festival and to give Anya support.

Vietnamese New Year Festival:
Our friend Ann invited us to the Vietnamese New Years Festival. It is also based on the Lunar calendar. It takes place from the first day of the first month of the Lunar calendar (around late January or early February) until at least the third day. Riot's parents went to Vietnam last year. They bought Anya a Vietnamese outfit (for the boy, it looks just like a Chinese outfit so they did not buy one for Aden). This was a good opportunity for her to wear it. Ann and PK also gave the kids their first red envelopes. At the event, organizer also gave a red envelope to every kid at the event.
