Anya got an idea from her favorite show, Max and Ruby: she wanted to go bird watching and suggested we have a picnic at the park and do some bird watching. We met up with James and Isabella at Durant Park. As we walked through the park, the kids got excited when they saw butterflies and heard birds chirping. However, as soon as they saw the playground, they forgot about everything else and just played until lunch time. When we left the park, we asked Anya how many birds she saw today and she said she saw blue birds! She was a bit disappointed, though, because she really wanted to see a woodpecker.
Question: anyone have a good pair of small (kids) binoculars they want to get rid of cheap?

What a nice park & playground! Sometimes we get woodpeckers, I didn't know there are so many different kinds. We even get the big the woody woodpecker kind with the red on his head! Of course it's really hard to keep filling up the bird feeder.
I recommend getting a squirrel-proof feeder. And put in black oil sunflower seeds. You will see different kinds of birds and they love the seed!
Tippy bought $12 Coleman binoculars for the kids and they work pretty well. The field of view is really small so it's hard for the kids to actually find the birds, but the kids still have fun.
