Our friend Roy had informed us that his relative has a blueberry farm in Sanford and it was opening for the short season this weekend. We took the kids there to pick fresh blueberries for the first time. Anya and Aden are not big fans of blueberries, so we were interested to see if they would eat them right from the bush as they did with strawberries. The owner, Cindy, encouraged the kids to eat all they wanted and they did! They ate more than they put in the bucket! They were so fresh and tasted sweeter than what we buy from the grocery store. Cindy and Roy gave us tips on how to pick them so we got a lot of good ones. Also, you have to taste a couple from each bush because the blueberries from each bush give a little different taste.
We got there around 10am and it was so hot already that we only spent around 45 minutes in the field, then rested in the shady area while measuring out the blueberries we picked (we ended up with 7 pints!). Next year, we will try to get there a little earlier. Our friends, the Jongs, also came along with us and seemed to have a good time. Valerie is an expert picker and picked almost as much by herself as our whole family picked!

The next morning, we made blueberry muffins and blueberry pancakes.

Look like you guys had so much fun as always. The older man in the pic looks very familiar. I might have met him somewhere.
