Franklin County had their 5th Annual Farm, Foods, & Crafts Tour. To support our local farmers, we decided to go visit. Since our time was limited (Riot had to meet up with her friends in the afternoon for their 3rd Annual Girl Night Out and Spa Experience), so we decided to go visit Lynch Creek Farm & Antiques. There were over 10 farms to visit, but Lynch Creek is the closest to our house.
Lynch Creek Farm specializes in grass-fed beef. David has bought their beef before at the local farmer’s market and loved it. They just had 6 baby calves (a month old). To see the babies up close, we took a hayride. The most interesting thing is that the herd is led (guarded) by Molly, a donkey! One of the farmers complained that the cows are stubborn – now we know why!
The Lady of the farm is an antiques guru, so she opened up her house for people to visit her antiques and decorations. We did not spend much time in the house since we had small kids, but everything was so beautiful! Very genuine, 19th Century rural American pieces. The kids seemed to have a lot of fun. Aden and Anya liked the chickens the most. They also witnessed a peeing and pooping cow…something we just found out kids find exciting… Anya practiced her climbing skills in the tree in the front yard. We wish we had more time to visit other farms. Each individual farm has their own specialty such as S&L Family Farm - organic and all natural turkeys, chickens and daily goats; Spain Farm - Maitake, Lion's Mane and Pearl Oyster mushrooms; Cedar Rock Wilderflowers - organic tomatoes and glower bouquets and more. These farms encourage people to go visit them, but since they have to be at the farmer’s market on the weekends, they only allow visitors during the week. Next year we will plan to visit more of them.
