We discovered a hidden gem out in the middle of nowhere North Carolina - the Sylvan Heights Bird Park ( http://shwpark.com ).
They have a great variety of birds from the Americas, Australia, and Eurasia.The
kids loved seeing all the birds, but a highlight was when the owner of
the park got an emu to lay down (difficult to train an emu to do that,
he said) and the kids were able to pet the emu.
At
the end, there is a big atrium with hundreds of little birds that will
eat right out of your hands along with several flamingos.
We had a great time and will definitely go back.
Sylvan Heights Waterfowl is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, and home to the Sylvan Heights Bird Park designed to give visitors an unforgettable up-close experience with over 2,000 ducks, geese, swans, and other exotic birds from around the world.
